The Electrical EngineeringGroup aims to provide a solid core based on Electromagnetic and Powerelectronics which form the basis of Electrical Machines, Power and distributionand generation and electric power transformation. The core also includesexposure courses to Solar, Wind and Fuel cell electric power management andplasma electric systems. The courses have an integrated outlook includingElectrical Power, Electronics Hardware and software and firmware. You are, ofcourse, allowed to take courses from other groups some of which will count ascore courses towards a major in EE. The group also strives to provide enoughindustrial practices in the above areas. Electives are made available in theabove areas and some of the electives have been specially designed keeping inmind modern industry practices. Thus, you will be able to take electives inpower metering, Solar PV cell generated power generation and networking,Manufacturing of cables, Switch gear design, Electric Panel Design, ElectricMotor design and manufacturing, modern materials in Electrical Eng., Power overEthernet, etc.
As per the VIMT philosophy each of the courses offered have a richbackup of experimental and project work. Student groups will be guided to workout projects and find solutions using VIMT’s Lab and workshop facilities. Thesecould range from finding better ways to meter, to comparing HVDC with HVACtransmission etc. The outcome of the set of courses offered by this group is tomake an engineer who can work in the areas of Electrical Power and machines invarious functions from Design to operation to management and to Transmissionand distribution apart from other fields which will open up in the future. The VIMTeducated Electrical Engineer will have a sound foundation in theory, be athoroughly practical experimental engineer who is aware of current practices.
